Reply with quote I’m sure most of you have seen the technique, display an image that is hard to read so reading of it can’t (in theory) be done by a program in order to be sure that it is a human signing up/using somethign on a site.

Example:
Network Solutions

Everytime I see this it annoys me because I think they might as well say ‘if you’re blind go away we don’t want you’.

Even hotmail use it i think!

Has anyone seen a site that uses this technique but provides an Accessible alternative? Any thoughts?

Reply with quote I have in the past come across sites that provide audio alternatives however, lets assume the user does have a functional soundcard; the alterative fails miserably.

Reply with quote Check out http://www.knowspam.net/, the spam filtering service. When it first premiered it used the common “image with no alt description” method of tricking the bots. Enough stink was raised, however, and now they also provide an audio alternative.
Reply with quote The once dominant Altavista asks you to type in a code to submit a URL to the database – see: http://addurl.altavista.com/…

You’d ‘think’ they’d know better?
