Got any good 'uns to add?

Note: extra brownie points for highlighting corporate sites (blog sites are easy pickings!)

Reply with quote Hi Lloydi,

Can we add ourselves? We've been taking some great advice from Gez, Kajun, and Nigel on accessible design, and feel we've got a good balance of aesthetics and usability.

See www.designory.co.uk - all opinions gratefully received Wink

Reply with quote I'm not sure if it's proper to submit ones own work. But I'll give it a try.

One of the sites I just finished is css/xhtml 1 strict based. And has had alot of attention put into its accessibility. Here is the uri: http://www.pardons.org

I belive it fits the "corporate" criteria, it is a large non-profit organization in Canada. A better description of what they do is in their about section.

Last I checked it passes WAI level 1,2,3. But if anyone can find any faults or room for improvement please let me know.
Reply with quote I might be nitpicking but RNIB and UK should be marked up as abbreviations for WAI-AAA compliance.

Reply with quote Obviously, it's up to Ian who he includes in the list, but I can't see a problem with members posting their own sites, providing they meet the criteria he's after.

It may be an idea to post them on the site critiques board first, as it would add more weight to the validity of the entry if other members agree it is good. Pardons Canada looks a really well designed to me, and accessible from a quick glance. Because of the nature of criticism, you may not receive a reply, as it's easier to be negatively critical that it is positively critical. Maybe the board should be called member's best practice, where we talk about accessibility/markup issues that are exemplary in terms of best practice, as well as highlighting potential problems?

Reply with quote Hi guys

Being a curious little person I had a quick look at both Designory and Pardons. I agree, they look good but I noticed that both have the same problem. When using the Size button on the IE toolbar the font stays the same size rather than adjusting up or down.

I see from the source that Designory use px and Pardon has no noticable reference to font. It might help those who need a larger typeface if you first specify the font family i.e.

{font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;}

placing this just under the <body> line

The default font size can then be altered by using <font size="4"> blah </font> or any number between 1 & 7 (I think Embarassed )

Keep up the good work

Reply with quote Hi Mike,

You're correct about the font resizing issue, but font size="4" isn't the answer. Designory has been pointed in the right direction on the critiques board, and Pardons Canada would also be best dealt with over there, should it be submitted.

The reason I suggested posting over there first, is it saves the thread going off topic, as this one has.

Well I was obviously wrong with my assumption lol. Designory claims Level "AAA" conformance, but has a way to go yet. It's encouraging he's so keen to address the issues, but I'm surprised it was added as an exemplary site as they're not yet addressed.

Well, I've posted about a site - http://www.trinity.ox.ac.uk/ - over in the Critique section, as per your suggestion, and would be very happy for it be added as an exemplary site if it is deemed to be so. Very Happy

Matthew

Reply with quote Though you would expect public universities to be some of the first to jump on, I have seen very few.

We recently released our home page and primary news sites:
http://www.utsa.edu/
http://www.utsa.edu/...

Both are table-less and have many accessibility features built in. Let me know what you think!
Reply with quote I have been involved in building the front-end code for BHP Billiton, a large corporate here in Australia.

htpp://www.bhpbilliton.com

A few points:

Built with valid XHTML 1.0 Transistional and CSS
Site scales down in text only browsers
The drop down navs are replaced with a text link to the sitemap for navigation in text only browsers
Forms use fieldset, label tags etc
