Hello from Melbourne, Australia
Hello from Melbourne, Australia.
I started planning my home-based web development business in August 2003 (business plan, market research, structure, tax rules, bookkeeping requirements, etc.); got the business up and running in May of 2004 (part time, while still holding down full time employment); and at beginning of January 2005, I took the plunge into full time self employment.
My target market is small businesses, and to date business has been brisk, considering I am yet to spend any money (apart from web hosting fees) on advertising or marketing my business. All my work so far has come via word of mouth.
I am still fairly new to web design, and the idea of developing accessible yet functional websites is one that interests me greatly. So, I hope to learn a lot from everyone on the forum about how I can successfully design and implement accessible, usable, functional websites; and hopefully along the way, I will be able to pass on some of the knowledge I am gaining each and every day as I strive to achieve my business and lifestyle goals.

Hello Rohan, and welcome to the forum!
This is a good place to be if you want to learn about accessible web design. I'd recommend that you read some of the posts first of all, just to get a feeling of the tone used here. Some new arrivals have been ... shall we say 'taken aback' ... when they didn't expect certain answers.
The atmosphere here is friendly and usually quite light-hearted. We all share a common interest (for some of us it's even a passion), so we tend to want to help one another.
I hope you'll like it here, and that you'll stay on and contribute to the forum even when you've become an expert.

Thanks for the welcome. I have just been having a browse around, and am looking forward to asking lots of noob questions - this is an aspect of the web I'm interested in learning more about.
As for the Ashes, I can't wait. I've just finished watching the Aussies take a 1-0 lead our one-day series against the Pakis. And I saw the tied result your boys had against South Africa the other night - can't wait for the Ashes series to start. Unfortunately though, it will only be televised on pay TV, which I don't subscribe to
so I will be tuned into the Net and my radio (Sorry, got a bit off topic for a moment...
)

Welcome to the forum!
I was in a position like yours at the beginning of last year, although, I didn't have a full-time job. After six months or so on the forum picking up lots of input, I started up in self-employment.
Stick around... I think you'll enjoy it here.

Thanks! I've only been here about an hour and I already like the feel of the place. Think I'll hang around a while.
Probably can't contribute much early on, but if I see an opportunity, I'll stick my nose in every once in a while, with some information, thoughts or opinion that will hopefully be useful to somebody!
