Access options/keys, text size, colour scheme, access keys..
Hello
Well I've done an interim accessibility statement saying we're on the way to making our sites compliant.
Now I'm getting into access options, text size, colour scheme and access keys to go with this statement! Are these really necessary? Anyone have any examples? Should you have these on a site which isn't compliant yet? Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Thanks
LL

Sort ofanswer your own question, if they were not necessary they would not belong to accessibility, so you would not need them to be accessible.
As for Access keys, most here believe they are not worth the trouble as they can cause problems with those shortcut keys that browsers already have. Also if a navagation is created in a logical order they are not needed either, mostly usefull for form fields, then you have to note them somewhere, also you should always use numbers.

Again you answer yourself, they are needed as mentioned above. As they are needed the site will only be compliant when they are added, so yes you would need to add them to a non-compliant site.
Just do a search herefor what you wonder about, like "Access Keys" and you will find more than a few threads to help you further.

There's nothing wrong with stating that you're working towards accessibility and being really transparent about what you're doing.
It's probably not a good thing to say you've done stuff if you haven't quite got there yet tho
In terms of access keys, if you're going to use them, be very careful that you choose combinations that aren't going to conflict with existing shortcut key combinations used by screen reader users, or, for that matter, for any users (i.e., CTRL+D, etc). If you do a search for access keys you'll find several posts where the problems have been discussed at length.
I suppose the best advice is to keep it simple and keep it honest.
