Reply with quote Sun's Java Accessibility Utilities gives a good overview of Java accessibility.
Reply with quote I am working with IBM's Web Services through developerWorks. I am evaluating the IBM Software Development Platform middleware for our uses in presenting full web services to our clients in Deepspace.org. Deepspace.org is a mainstream communication and support tool for the hadicapped. We currently provide a PHP forum much like this forum and we provide a safe family type IRC platform. We are planning to add more web services, such as self paced tutorials and education links, hosting simple web pages for the handicapped, providing resources for physical and emotional support to the handicapped and their families.

As a developerWorks member, I was invited to an IBM technical briefing in Houston this past Thursday. While participating in this briefing, I did have the oportunity to discuss the difficulties with accessibility to JAVA for our blind users with a market manager, emerging business, IBM research division, representative. Also, it is noted that IBM has asked SUN to make JAVA open source. Then yesterday, I was involved a long telephone conversation with IBM developerWorks on their dime (perhaps shilling for our British cousins), to discuss, among other things, the problems of accessibility and web services. Please note that IBM is now well aware of the problem and is working hard for us. We must give them time to develop their web services to include accessibility.

Since I am not a programmer but do know and use html for web development, I am deeply concerned that my web pages are fully accessible. This is especially true now that I am aging rather rapidly, espeically at the head. That is, I am losing my hair, my teeth, my hearing, my sight, and my mind. After all, I am 71, which means I have past from invincibility to senility. My concern now is to build those web services that we all, including the elderly, can use to make our cyber-life rewarding.

Yours,
CHTANK
