pdf and bobby
I've been tasked with redesigning a website. It's an education related site built back in the day using old school html methods.
So of course, the redesign will use complaint xhtml and css. Anywho, the client insists on having a "bobby" badge on the site. This is fine, I have some experience making a site 508 compliant. What's worrying me is they have a ton (50+) of Pdf's on their site. Not a single one is accessible by any means.
In order to be "bobby" approved, does that mean all pdf's (as well as docs, ppts) available on th site must also be accessible.
I'm not trying to cop out I just want more information before I tell the client they can't have the badge.

I think bobby would pass you - but you'd only be following the letter, not the spirit of accesability guidence.
Slip them into HTML if at all possible

I suggest you read Joe Clark's article on PDFs before making a call - http://www.alistapart.com/articles/pdf_accessibility
Personally I think if a document MUST be a PDF then you should at least have a gateway page with a summary, contact info, a link to the adobe reader and the link to the pdf with file size.

Daz, your link doesn't work. You need to take the "." off the end.

I realize this, I'm just trying to gather more information about the subject.
Any suggestions for good programs that convert pdf's to html. Some that I've played with kinda stink. They create pages with a ton of divs and the text isn't easily selectable?
The only thing I know of that may be as accessible as you're going to get is the Big River format. There's a thread on here somewhere if you do a search. I will be able to provide you with a more comprehensive answer soon as currently the company are converting a large print document for us as a demo.
Thanks for the info.
