Geek in the Park - Royal Leamington Spa, 27th August

Reply with quote http://www.geekinthepark.co.uk/

Quote:

Geek in the Park is a day-long get together, picnic, and discussion for anyone to do with the Internet (developers, designers, programmers… whatever!). This is a very informal affair so family and friends are very much welcome to attend too.

The big day is taking place in Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. Split in to two main events, Geek in the Park starts with The Picnic during the day, followed by The Discussion in the evening. The event starts on Sunday at noon and everything should wrap up by around 11pm.

Quote:

At 7pm, Geek in the Park moves to the nearby pub called the Jug and Jester, for some informative and entertaining speakers. We will also be hosting some off-the-wall competitions, with a chance to win prizes generously donated by the kind people at friends of ED.

We have the pleasure of playing host to some special guests at The Discussion:

Patrick H. Lauke is the web editor for the University of Salford and a member of the Web Standards Project Accessibility Task Force. Patrick also writes on splintered, his freelance creativity and design site.

Bruce Lawson is also a member of the Web Standards Project Accessibility Task Force, and is he co-authr and technical reviewer of Web Accessibility: Web Standards and Regulatory Compliance. Bruce writes on a personal site.

Patrick and Bruce will both be discussing 'Where the rubber meets the road: Web Accessibility and Pragmatism.
Reply with quote Damn, a couple of days earlier and I could've blagged it into the return from a Suffolk trip. Might have to work on the wife... Smile

Reply with quote Presumably my invite got lost in the e-post? Wink
Looks cool. Will try and get down for it.
Reply with quote If not snowed under, I hope to make it too.
Reply with quote Last train to London, in time to get back across to Charlton, seems to be absurdly early. I may come down and stay overnight somewhere in Leamington.

I've just booked a room at the Victoria Park Hotel, in Adelaide Road. Doesn't seem very far away.

Reply with quote What's the plan in case of rain? I'll be getting to Leamington around 1, so see you in the park after I've dropped my stuff off at the hotel.

One of my friends is hopefully coming down from Stoke, so keep an eye out for this young lady.

Reply with quote I've asked on the site itself.

It says words to the effect of "if it rains we'll move inside until the discussion starts" which I'm guessing means moving straight to the pub...

Got this in response regarding weather etc:

Quote:
Currently, the weather forecast is still touch-and-go ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=1574 ) so, in reply to a few concerns, here is the plan for bad-weather:

If it is raining during the morning and up to start-of-play (that's 12 noon remember) then the Picnic session will be called-off completely. If this is the case head over to the Jug and Jester (some-what seven hours early) to meet-and-greet. I will be there til around 2pm, to make sure everyone is welcomed, so come say 'hi'. You can stay there all-day (literally), chat and drink (I suggest you pace yourself if this is your plan). Or if you haven't made it to Leamington Spa before, I recommend you gather a few people up and take a tour of the shops and the area.

Hopefully the weather will be good for the entire day, but if it starts raining, there are plenty of pubs (and shops) for people to migrate themselves indoor to. However, I realise that spending all-day in a pub may not be the best option for a lot of people!

If everything goes according to plan, the event will start in glorious sunshine (ok, probably overcast) at 12 noon. The Picnic event is extremely informal and relaxed and will continue to around 5pm. This leaves two hours for you all to grab some food before the evening session.
Reply with quote those attending who haven't got my phone nr, give me a shout just in case the afternoon is cancelled due to rain, so we can meet up. Smile
Reply with quote How was it? Did the rain hold off?

Cheers,

Reply with quote It was excellent - sunny all afternoon. There were a couple of blokes in the pub that insisted on standing up and talking for a hour or so (no idea who they were).
Reply with quote Aha, the flickr pool now has tags for 'accessibility wonder dog' and 'banned from the pub':
