It is about how the BBC hired Cerrie Burnell to co-host a children's show. She happens to have one arm. Parents have reacted negatively towards it.

I believe that the BBC did the right thing in hiring her because they hired because she could do the job. Disability is a part of life.

I contrast this with Sesame Street. Now it has been many years since I have watched it. They have someone on it that is deaf. Parents were pleased with it as far as I know. I seem to recall that there were children on Sesame Street that had disabilities.

What are people's thoughts on this?

Reply with quote I thought that you guys might be interested to hear that the news of this got over to the United States.

I told my dad about this and he was surprised that there would be a people against this. He is 54. When he was a child, there was someone on a television show (children's television show) that had no hands. It didn't give him nightmares. He later got to meet this person. My dad thanked him for being on the show. After talking to my dad, I've concluded it isn't that those in his weren't heavily exposed to people with disabilities. Maybe some weren't, but I don't think that that is the main issue. Some people may just like to complain.

On the Today Show news story about this, there was a young boy that talked about how the young woman could still function with one arm and that it was okay. I thought that it was cute.
