Can an electric wheelchair withstand two people?
One of my female friends wants go for a ride in my wheelchair sitting on my lap (I'm not trying to sound vulgar so please don't erase). She weighs around 50 kilos. I weigh around 30 kilos. My wheelchair weighs around 150 kilos. Do you think it could withstand it? I would hate to refuse her request.
If together you only weigh 80kg this shouldn't be a problem. Many people weigh over 80kg and their wheelchairs cope easily.
Thank you very much for your reply
It is NOT just about the weight, it is more about control and stability. With a person on your lap (if electric wheelchair) they could accidently push the sensitive controls or obstruct you from having full access to them, resulting in an accident.
Also as the person weighs 20 kilos more than you it may result in injury to you but that greatly depends on your disability.
Sorry if this sounds harse but wheelchairs are not toys as I often have to tell friends kids that think they are.
