Wheelchair access to/from trains: Discussion group
Hi,
I'm conducting some research for TRL (http://www.trl.co.uk) on improving access to and from train for wheelchair users. To gain insight into wheelchair users' perspectives on this issue, we would like to organise a focus group of 4-8 people, preferably in London but we would consider other locations. Participants would be paid for their time and travel, and would also be contributing to an important piece of research.
If you would be interested in taking part in a discussion group (time and location TBA) please let me know.
Many thanks,
Emma

Emma,
I do have a problem with boarding trains due to my visual impairment and the problem of judging the depth and gap due to my own problem, so if I could be of help please let me know.

I have a wheelchair user friend that lives in Milton Keynes, the nearest station to her house only has an accessible platform on one side, this means that she can get on the train to start her journey but when she returns she has to go past 8 miles, get a returning train and then get off the same platform that she originally entered.
Reason, if she gets off the platform on the return side there is one of those horrible over the track stepped bridges needed to cross to get back to the station exit.
I'm a wheelchair user and have no confidence at all in train accessibility, last time I went on a train it had steam coming out the top! (showing my age now)
