Wheelchair Positioning Belts
I am a solicitor acting for a disabled client who has suffered further serious injuries when she was thrown out of her power wheelchair. I desperately need help from 5 or 6 wheelchair users who do not wear positioning belts. My client tells me that, in practice, very few wheelchair users like or wear these belts, but I need to prove it.
In addition if there are any researchers or care professionals who could help on this issue, that would greatly assist.
I am determined to try and prove this issue for my client, and hope that forum members will be able to help please
Many thanks

being tied into a wheel chair would be very un nerving to most people as if the chair hits a pot hole and it tips over then the riders head will be the first thing to hit the ground so if belts are worn then helmets also and where do you stop.
it would appear the chair your client uses is innapropiate for them.
many designs are available that take into account the patient. ie front wheel steering or rear wheel stering and substantial wheels etc

Thank you for your comments.
The chair used by my client was fine for her needs. The incident which caused her injury would have had the same result no matter which power chair had been used.

I havent tried it with a weight belt but I have used wheelchair positioning belts which I do tend to slide to one side or another. It seems to be a bit better if I do incline as I stay a bit more secure. Maybe the weight belt would help a little better to hold me on a flat bench. I will have to give that a try.
