Headings for items in listings

Reply with quote Hi

What are your feelings about markup that should be used for lists of content items such as you might get on a latest news page or results of a product search?

Each one has a title as a link to a full page, plus a teaser and others details such as a date.

I feel the title of each item listed should be a heading, but some has said this is bad practice from an SEO point of view. They have however marked up each one with an HTML5 article tag

Thoughts?

My thoughts are I'm struggling to think why headings could be bad practice for SEO. Maybe ask the someone to explain that one?

If they are marked up as headings then screen reader users can generate a list of headings and navigate the page that way. This is equivalent to a sighted user scanning the results and looking at the the titles. Not much of a debate in my mind.
