The Conversational Internet

Reply with quote We are developing a piece of software that will hopefully improve access to the internet for visually impaired and blind users. The software will use natural language processing so that the user can navigate and browse through the internet effectively and efficiently and the software will respond to the user intelligently.

The aim of this project is to better accessibility. Please leave feedback and ideas about our approach and for more information, the project has a blog :

The software currently have basic capabilities, describing a page, reading an article, navigation. Any suggestions of useful features or bug bares with current software wold be much appreciated.
Reply with quote Hi, and welcome.

Firstly - not a great idea to post the same post in 5 different places. You very nearly got squashed as spam! Wink I have deleted all but this one.

This sounds like a really interesting project and the video demo is great. However, I do have to challenge an assumption you make on your website:
Quote:
Visually impaired people use the Internet as a last resort, while most of us cannot imagine life without it.

This is really, seriously not the case. I know loads of visually impaired and blind people who use, and rely on, the internet as much as anyone. The main difference is that they sometimes encounter barriers that may not be there for others - due mainly to bad website design.

I can absolutely see the idea behind your product - it would certainly help some visually impaired users, and would equally help other users too (notably people with motor impairments). In fact, if it can be as smooth as in the demo video, I could see it being of value to almost anyone.

I look forward to hearing more about the project.

Reply with quote Hello James,

I thought the idea was to post the new topic in areas that were most relevant. But thank you all the same.

The first part of the quote that you referenced is actually a quote from one of our testing sessions, it would be great to get the perspective of the blind and visually impaired people that you know so that we don't categorize as fully and can tailor our product for a more broad audience.

Any progression for any blind user in our book is an achievement, and honing in on the users that would benefit most is the direction that this project needs.

There are definitely more broad business applications possible with our ideas, developing the product with the extreme user of a blind person could satisfy all ranges of disabilities in between.

Thank you so much for the feedback Very Happy
