Reply with quote Just wondering, as you do on a Friday evening, is it just me or does anyone else think that our Smiley icon looks more like a Snarly icon? (With a black tooth or two!)

Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile

Reply with quote A happy and smiling smiley without showing teeth would be good.

Reply with quote Ben, agreed!

(I would have put a smiley here, but I thought you might think I was snarling at you Wink)

Reply with quote Great thread, if anyone fancies creating new smilies, we'll happily consider them Very Happy Smile Surprised (and of course give credit).

Reply with quote Here's a screenshot from another forum I'm at:

The first yellow smiley hides the teeth but needs eyebrows. Adjusting the Wink one into "gentle smile" should be possible.

The green ones have some funny animations, such as sticking the tongue out and "smile, wink, grin". They also have smoother blending but the colour would clash with Accessify.

Reply with quote As well as the bared teeth, the eyebrows contribute to an overall impression of slight menace. Incline them a little and it would be positively evil!

I think a gentle smile would be nice; one site I am on has rather inconsistant smileys, but a particularly nice and non-cheesy little smiley that looks very good-natured. I like to use something like that to ameliorate blunt or ambiguous comments.
Reply with quote Just goes to show what a little good old fashioned Friday night ruminating can set in motion. Rolling Eyes

Reply with quote Gentle Smile
  1. Here's the the current one, for comparison. Smile
  2. After much pixel-pushing, I got this.
  3. No eyebrow version, as Jordan requested.
  4. You can try making your own from this mouthless one.
I think 2 is an improvement but 3 has a child-like simplicity that I'm finding more and more endearing.

Replace & Offset?
The LOL smily is pretty nasty, imho. Laughing Maybe we could:
  • Replace Smile with .
  • Replace Very Happy with Smile.
  • Replace Laughing with Very Happy.
The wink one has always seemed a bit sarcastic, to me. Wink

So Last Season?
Or maybe we should replace the whole set to reflect Nigel's latest visuals, such as a mature bronze or blue set? The requirements document is a great way to track discussion and demos so far but doesn't mention smilies, yet.

Great work, I agree about 3, it's very effective.

I agree, the LOL one should go. I'm not crazy about the wink, but it has it's place to indicate, well, a wink!

I would prefer to replace Smile with rather than . Apart from that, I'd go with your suggestions here.

Not sure, might be good, but a lot of work and the yellow ones stand out well.

I will add it.

Never mind that, that mouthless one needs to be in the list itself. I'm thinking :gobsmacked: or :dumbfounded:

Sounds good to me Smile maybe some of the others should go to get rid of having to click "View more Emoticons" to see the other 2?

I agree, the wink should stay and the gobless one should be added!

Ben, I agree with your suggestions.

Reply with quote Nigel, I'll give the eyebrow-less treatment to a few others. See how they turn out.

You could run a search through the database to see which icons get used the most?
