Accessibility Survey , Why we all fail ?
Home / Legal Issues & Web Standards / Accessibility Survey , Why we all fail ?
A very Good morning to you. I hope you are doing well and enjoying each moment of your life.
I need your help in research i am doing on Accessibility Problems faced by disabled people around the world and webmasters concerns for implementing accessibility over websites
About 97% of websites fail to meet the most basic requirements for accessibility.
Global Statistics suggest that:
* Worldwide, between 600 - 750 million people have a disability
* 3 out of every 10 families are touched by a disability
We are trying to find out why even after so may years of accessibility guidelines by W3C we are still not able to implement them in our websites.
I shall be thankful to you if you can spare 5 min of yours and complete this survey for webmasters around the world.
Accessibility Survey
I shall be happy to give accessibility analysis report for your website as token of thanks for completing this short 3-5 min survey.
I thank you from core of my heart for sparing up your time in reading this long message.
With Best Wishes for you and your family
And I request to moderators , if it seems fine to you and if is within forum guidelines can we make this thread sticky ?
Thank You

However, in this forum it is likely to stay near the top of the page for a few weeks anyway, so that should hopefully get you enough responses...

Also, I was surprised to see question 4 has radio buttons, meaning you can only choose one. Most of us are referring to multiple guidelines i.e. WCAG and DDA.
Still, I look forward to seeing the results.

| Worth pointing out that the survey itself isn't very accessible (missing vital labels for a start) so you may be excluding some of your target audience. That could impact on the results.

Hello James Coltham , thanks for your points.
I am going to look both of the points mentioned by you ,the survey has been designed with facilities provided by question pro website , i shall see if we can make it accessible and with reference to multiple guidelines , i checked changes cannot be made without loosing data already collected .
Thanks for your time and comments
I shall keep you updated for results , as we complete this process in few days.
Have a wonderful day
This work is being done as part of university research on Accessibility
What we are trying to find out from this.
* Webmasters point of view of accessibility problem. Why webmasters are not able to take up and implement accessibility guidelines in all of their work.
* What problems they are facing in implementing those guidelines?
* Does tough project timeline and money put constraints for implementing accessibility?
* Is knowledge of webmasters related to accessibility bottleneck?
* Whose responsibility does they feel in implementing Accessibility ? Are they just trying to pass the ball?
I hope at the end of this process we shall be able to have answers to some of these questions.
And Please incase you haven't participated in the survey yet. Please spare 3-5 min of yours for this cause
Thanks for your time . Your comments and suggestions are heartily welcome.
The questions are rather confusing. For example, "8. Whose responsibility is do you feel to make websites accessible for everyone?" could be simplified as "8. Whose responsibility is it to make websites accessible?"

| benevolent001, I have edited your previous posts to remove extra links to the survey, as there were about 5 links to the thing in this one thread and it was starting to look like spamming...

Thank You , JackP , I will take it into consideration in future threads
Like every industry lack of regulation (or qualifications) means that many developers are given a free licenses to create sites that work just about. Imagine if anyone could be a dentist, doctor or a boiler repair man. On the other hand the spirit of the web is that anyone can do it. Luckily this view can slowly die because Joe public are given controlled environments such as blogger and myspace.

Hello Johan , Thanks for your views . The Joe public you are talking about is not affected much , whether website is accessible or not. They are mostly affected when website they love doesn't opens in the mobile phones or PDAs .
The user domain for which accessible websites are blessings are much more important than Joe public and that's why standards are important for industry. More over accessible websites are added user experience to normal users.
Thanks for sharing your views with us , please do take part in the survey if you haven't done it already.
With Lots of Best Wishes to You and Your family.
