Dissertation Survey - Wheelchair Users and the Able-Bodied

Reply with quote Is it possible for you to spend five minutes answering questions for my dissertation? If you can, please let me know.
Thanks Lainey
Reply with quote Hi Lainey and welcome to the Forum! Smile

Could you please supply more information about the subject of your Dissertation please?

Is it an online survey? Purely academic or more of a commercial angle? What, specifically, does it have to do with accessibility?

Members are usually more than happy to help out with such requests - we just need more information!

Cheers! Smile
Reply with quote Hiya Garry,

Sorry about that, I'm doing an access course and the dissertation is about wheelchair users, carers and the services in shops and offices.

What I would like to ask is, would anyone like to fill in a questionnaire for me, but I need people who are not only wheel chair users, but carers and able bodied people.

Its ten questions of a yes or no answer and I need about ten people of each catagory to complete it.

I would appreciate any help, thanks.

Reply with quote Hi Again Garry,

I have done it again.

The questionnaire has to have about one hundered participants, from them one hundred, there are to be at least ten from each catagory from on line participants.

Non of it is personal details.

I just want personal oppinions, observations and attitudes to accessibility.

Thanks for the lovely welcome and your time.

ps, the trouble with access courses that are supposed to be two years but are actually one year is that, there are assignments everywhere  but not enough hours in the day :D
Reply with quote Hi Lainey - again... Smile

No problem with your questionnaire...is it available on-line? If so, a link to it would be really helpful.

If not, how about posting the questions here and supplying an e-mail address so that respondents can send their answers to you? I would suggest not using your personal e-mail address though, as it opens the floodgate for spammers... Sad You could set up a free one with Google, Hotmail, etc purely for this purpose.

Any problems just let me know. Smile

p.s. I know all about access courses and how much work you have to cram into one year! But keep at it, it's worth it in the end. I ended up as a full-time mature student at University and graduated at the grand old age of 40! My, that was 13 years ago!

p.p.s. You were a busy little poster last night! Smile
Reply with quote Hiya Gary,

Well now, I am in the same position you were in thirteen years ago, and yes, it's a nightmare. As my wheelchair broke down again, for the third time in the same amount of weeks, I had to have today off College and it's driving me up the wall. I have three assignments to have in for Monday, plus the review of the dissertation, (only 6,ooo words) by Monday and, to add insult to injury, he is on my case because apparently, my questions were'nt good enough, again! they are not that bad but just a little tweeking apparently.

Apart from that, honestly, I'm loving every minute. Most of the students are between twenty and thirty and they are more interested in going out of a weekend than doing their work, so, when Monday arrives and I give in my work, I feel like a "swat" ( :o ) anyway, I digress. The questions will be posted during the weekend. I would appreciate anyone, disabled and able bodied people to answer the relevant questions to the best of their ability. Their answers will have anonymity as I am after their personal opininons. IF you can Garry, could you answer them aswell?

Thanks
Lainey
Reply with quote OH,

Sorry, yes, the questions will be on line.

:( Oh I feel so old, my head is chocker :?

I forgot to tell you Garry, I have been accepted to University in September.
Reply with quote Hi Lainey,

Wow! Even my Access course wasn't that bad. Commiserations on the wheelchair situation.

As soon as you've put the questions up, post a link here and, of course, I'll take part myself. If you like, I could put a request and link on Twitter. That way, you're more likely to get a better cross-section of respondents. Let me know and I can do that straight away for you.

Great news on the Uni place! Smile I was at York and loved every minute of it - even when stressed out over exam revision and assignment deadlines!

Hey! I've just realised that you're in Liverpool. I spent some time doing Post Grad research into children with special needs there. Loved the Liverpool pubs and culture! I used to love having visitors so I could take them on the ferry - sad or what? Very Happy

Cheers for now!
Reply with quote Hiya Gary,

Yes, i'm in Liverpool (for my sins) :o born and bred a liverpudlian and proud just hate where I live now.

I'm about to send the revamped questions to my mad professor and get his feedback but they should be posted sometime during the weekend.

I would be grateful if you could get as many as possible. I am supposed to get at least two hundred, somehow, I don't think so :o .

take care and thanks so much, ur a gent.

Reply with quote Lainey,

I've moved the whole thread here as it rightly belongs here. I've also amended the title so it's not so general.

If you're not happy with the title I've supplied, please feel free to change it as you see fit! Smile
Reply with quote Hiya Gary,

Reply with quote Elaine,

Curiosity begs me to ask why you need to post your e-mail address?

Would I be right in thinking that only your questions will be on-line and respondents need to e-mail their answers to you?

If so, one common practice is to 'mung' the address. For example, I could put: gary.miller[at]awts.eu

Anyone serious enough will realise that they need to replace [at] with the correct symbol. This method prevents spambots from picking up legitimate e-mail addresses in the source code of the document.

Unfortunately, this method won't stop the human spammer! Sad

Another, possibly more preferred solution, would be to set up another free e-mail account purely to receive your data.

Anyone have any other solutions?

Is this OK? Smile
Reply with quote Depending on what the posting of the email is for but I would suggest something like PHP.

If it's for something to be sent by a form, PHP works well and doesn't reveal the address.

If you want your email online you could also use PHP to have a button that when clicked 'reveals' the email address.
This will stop the email being harvested by bots but of course a human can manually harvest it, if they are that sad!!

Reply with quote Nice solutions! Thanks Adrian. Smile
Reply with quote Glad to help Gary, although amazed I could couple it all together, feeling very sleepy today!

I have been coding PHP for the last couple of weeks, doing a order form for a handmade card retailer, they sell over 70 cards each card needed at least 6 lines of code for it, then prices and working out totals etc Shocked

Should go live next week after final testing.
