Discrimination?
Home / Accessibility Off the Web / Discrimination?
I went for a job interview today which is great but the thing is, the office I visited didn't have wheelchair access (or so I thought...). I buzzed in and 2 people helped me up the four steps which was nice of them.
However, when I went to leave the office I had an accident and fell down the steps. As a result, I have injured my hand (palm, from where I tried to soften the fall), my elbow, my ribs, my hip (this was already injured, but was getting better) and also my lower back. Needless to say, I'm in quite a bit of pain. ...but here's the kicker...
They DID have wheelchair access, but nobody (despite being seen and acknowledged by 4 different employees) bothered to tell me, which is nice.
That's a compensation claim right there if I ever saw one.
The thing that really bothers me though is that I was phoned earlier and was told that the job wouldn't be suitable for a person in my position because it's a residential marketing job and that people's homes may not have suitable wheelchair access.
I was told by the manager himself that they liked my CV, my personality traits and such. So, I think the only reason I'm not getting the job is because I use a wheelchair.
Does this sound like discrimination to any of you?
This is silly but, I feel upset, useless and almost violated in a way
Thanks guys,
Peace.
P.S. If I've left out any information, just ask and I'll be happy to answer
