video resources for learning about screen readers etc
I had a meeting today at the council where I'm doing my internship, about making a website about accessibility in the City. Now, the interesting thing was, they asked if I could make a widget that read the text on the page out loud.
So I said, sure, but who would use that? To witch they responded, visually impaired people for instance.
Then I asked, but why would they use the widget instead of their own screen reader software?
And I quickly learnt that they had never even heard of screen readers. They were like, so it reads out the text? But how does it know where the mouse is? They don't use a mouse? (You know, the usual questions).
So, I thought I could gather up some nice video demonstrations about assistive technology (not just screen readers), that I could share with them.
So my request is this: If you know a good video where someone is showing how to use a screen reader, braille display, or other assisitve technology to use the web or go online, please post it here.
I will then share it with everyone at the council.

Yahoo has some good ones, but they're a bit too long and advanced for my audience I think. Still, they are pretty good, if you want to check them out:

Fantastic!
Erin Kennan's videos are very enjoyable viewing, and will probably be revelatory for anyone who hasn't seen a native screenreader user at work. For example, Importance of HTML headings for accessibility is a great example of a fully blind accessibility specialist interacting with three popular websites using JAWS 10, as well as showing off how good use of structured markup can make sites much easier to navigate.
Thank you Jordan, those are great. Very educational. I am adding ARIA to the sites I am working on now, but havent actually seen anyone use it besides for testing.
DotJay is a competent and long-term member of this forum. I'll second any videos on the subject he recommends.
