Improving Manual Wheelchairs
Hi All,
I've been working in Wheelchair Accessible vehicle design for a couple of years now whilst finishing a design and engineering degree. I am now in my final year of the degree, and I have chosen my major project to be a redesign of the manual wheelchair. I have seen some impressive (and some not so impressive) technology come through the workshop at work in the way of power chairs as clients come to drop off or pick up their converted vehicles, but the manual wheelchairs I see all seem to have similar weaknesses.
I have a list of what I have seen from clients and from literature reports as areas where major improvements could be made to manual wheelchairs, but I was hoping that some of you may be willing to take the time to fill out a quick 10 question survey for me telling me some of the issues you have seen and things you would like to see improved.
I am aiming to make this design as suitable and as manufacturable as possible, as I would like to see it in production and genuinely helping people once I have completed it. The survey is below, please feel free to add any additional information here or ask any questions about my project.
