Can you help us?
Hello all! My name is Tom, and I am a senior majoring in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. I am working on my senior design requirement by designing an accessible way for people to access electronic print media (or an accessible eReader).
What I was hoping to get was some user feedback, and I think all of you fine folks may be able to help!
This device will be focused around people with limited manual dexterity that find current eReaders (like the Kindle, the iPad, and the Nook) difficult to use. I have a questionaire that I have created that gives me an idea of your reading habits as well as your experience with eReaders in general, and if you all wouldn't mind giving me some (any) feedback on some of the questions, I would really appreciate it!
Feel free to email me at gerold@wisc.edu with comments, questions, etc! Thanks so much!
Here is the questionaire:
Do you read in your spare time?
Do you enjoy reading?
What kind of media do you read?
How do you currently read?
Do you have any difficulties with the way you read?
What about other ways you’ve tried to read that you do not prefer?
Are there any limitations you have while reading?
Do you read electronic media? (Electronic book, E-magazines/newspapers, blogs, others)
Have you ever tried an electronic reader (eReader)? (for example, the Kindle, the Nook, etc.)
If you have ever used an eReader to read before…
Did you encounter any difficulties reading with the device? If so, what were they?
Is there a particular design feature of the eReader you enjoyed?
Was there a particular design feature of the eReader you did not like?
If you had a blank canvas and decided to make an eReader that was better suited to your unique way of reading, what are three features that are, in your mind, absolutely essential?

Have you considered adding text-to-speech to your device for the vision impaired?
