New and in need of advice
Mobility
I have got a Ford Focus Titanium (Diesel) which I received through a garage in Stranraer, Dealer Location. GK Group Fountain Way Blackparks Ind. Est. Stranraer DG9 7BZ, which is 25 miles away from my home town of Minnigaff.
I am new to the Mobility Scheme but I will lay out a timetable of events which happened to me from Thursday 01/07/2011, as the issues which happened and the way they were dealt with leaves me angry and confused about the way I have been treated.
Thursday 30/06/2011
Had been out a run when the car engine stopped (3 miles from Minnigaff) and a message came on the dashboard - Engine malfunction. I phoned the RAC - they arrived but could not find out what was wrong. The RAC man told me the car would need to be taken to the Dealership (GK - Stranraer) but as he was at the edge of his area of responsibility he would need to take it to a garage in Minnigaff (Motorwise) and they would ferry the car on to Stranraer. I asked about a replacement car and the RAC said that was up to the Dealership, The Dealership said the RAC should provide a curtsey car? At 4.30pm a friend arrived and took me home leaving me with no transport from 4.30 pm until 6.00pm Friday 01/07/2011.
Friday 01/07/2011
Phoned GK Group during the day to see how they were getting on with the car. I was told it was the battery *piss off - the battery was healthy* and they would charge the battery. At 4.55 pm I phoned this group again to be told I could pick it up as it was sorted? I arranged a lift from a friend to take me to Stranraer (25 miles away) at 6.15 pm I got my car back (had been arranged to use my spare key as the garage would be shut by the time I got there - garage shut at 5.30pm) I returned home via my Focus - no sign of problems. Used the car from 6.15 pm Friday until 4.15 pm Saturday.
Saturday 02/07/2011
I used the Focus to go to Wigtown (7 miles - at noon) “walk for life” cancer research event. Stayed at the event until 4.40 pm (car parked throughout this time) I arrived home at 4.55 pm. Car was working fine, but just after 5.10pm she (wife) went to go shopping - car would not start. This time I phoned GK group first, the gentleman informed me that they had taken over GK group two days before. I asked about a curtsey car to be told there was nothing they could do because they shut at 5.30pm - they will give me a car on Monday when the open at 8.00 am. Moral so far - if you are an invalid and rely on your car, do not break down between the hours of 5.30pm Friday until 8.00am Monday morning. I then phoned the RAC who duly arrived but like the RAC guy on Thursday he could not find out what was wrong and was last seen heading over the horizon with me left with a duff car and no transport. Today I had access to my car for about ½ hour - if that.

Wee Ford Focus looks grand sitting in my driveway unfortunately that is about all it is good for. What does the short term future hold for me? Lets ask Dipstick Fred the Mobility Mystic Engineer!
“I predict that you will not be able to use your car today. It will sit on your drive until Monday 04/07/2011 (sometime) when the RAC decide to take it to Stranraer. You will be left without transport for another (or part of) that day, when you might be lucky enough to get your car back. You will again be out of pocket because you will need to get a friend to drive you to Stranraer to get your car and pay for his time and fuel (again)”.
As a new member to Mobility is this the quality of service I should expect? Maybe my lack of understanding of the service provision is at fault? I was under the impression that I would have care free driving without the stress of worrying about the day to day running of a vehicle, the extra financial burden of unexpected breakdowns and becoming housebound due to lack of transport. Have I been shoved from pillar to post? Can I ask for another vehicle? Can I cancel my contract because of lack of support? Or am I just being a boring old fart that should be grateful for whatever help that an individual can be bothered to give me?

I do believe they are in breach of contract under the sales of goods act so maybe speaking with trading standards could be a good move.

I am going to assume all warranties and consumer protection has expired, and that you want some kind of compensation for buying a "lemon."
Ask to talk to someone who can make decisions (or talking to them in person would be more effective). Tell them you bought a car from them a little while back and everything went fine until a few days ago. And that it was your fault for buying a "lemon," that you're the stupid one for thinking you can get a good car at a cheap price, etc. And they have no legal obligation to remedy your problem, But, you're so frustrated from the car breaking down twice in so many days that you thought you'd come down and see if they're anything they can do to remedy this problem (or use whatever words applicable to your situation).
The more you chastise yourself, the better chance of you getting some help.
We all want to be cool/ important in some way. Thus, they might do something to show that they are reasonably nice people and go above and beyond to help you out.
I hope things work out some how.

Very much impress by the information that you've shared in this site. Thank you so much for it.
Wow man that's cool that's very awesome. I'm happy for you that you have that kind of vehicle. Let's rock!
