Mark up quotations. Do not use quotation markup for formatting effects such as indentation.

I couldn't find any quotes on that page. If you previously used <blockquote> for indenting text, you'll have to tell us what you've replaced it with.

Reply with quote There is one thing that worries me about elastic designs it quickly gives horizontal scrollbars which I don't like.

As I see it there is no point in having a site which can have big enough fonts if the user cannot read it unhindered because of his/her screensize settings gives it horizontal scrollbars.
Reply with quote A fully elastic layout has many of the disadvantages of a fixed-width layout. For maximum usability, it needs max-width (and usually min-width along with that). Of course, IE doesn't support those.

However, a fully elastic design will satisfy checkpoint 3.4.

Reply with quote Fransgaard Wink . Is that a good argument for a design with a horizontal scrollbar and no or fixed width sidebars (if needed). What do you think?

Reply with quote it is a shame that IE does not support max-width because it would make everything so much easier

From a typographic point of view it would be a blessing because you could have sites that would never have horizontal scrollbars but at the same time avoid too long text-lines, ah... in a perfect world...

I guess it is really always a jugment call, but when I recently re-did my site I had it in a elastic layout and it from a typographic/readability point of view I thought it created problems, but the idea is good since too short text lines can be equally hard to read as long lines so ...
