In the wake of the Blaster worm a new breed of virus popped up ... the "benign bug". New variant of Blaster worm "fixes" infected systems

Seems to me that someone would be doing the world a favor (mind you this is a hypothetical favor in a hypothetical world) if someone were to come up with a benign bug that would delete Netscape 4x from a system and (perhaps) replace it with something a little more modern. Maybe we could call it the "Model A" virus. Or maybe the "Enema" virus. Just a thought ... Wink
Reply with quote Creating a virus that would hit say, mozilla.org downloading and installing Firebird would crush the server. Very bad idea. Because then no one would be able to download the magnificent browser Wink.
Reply with quote Do that but download/install Firebird, then despatch an httpd server to host the Firebird .zip, and dynamically modify the virus to point to your IP before it's sent out on the next round. It'd help save mozilla.org but it might kill all the other networks Laughing

(again, not advocating this kind of activity)

You're right. Our hypothetical coder would need to make the virus lie dormant for a random amount of time (perhaps from 1 to 60 days). Help distribute the load a little.

I like. I like. Not that someone should do this. Oh, no, never that.
