Reply with quote Quite informative and concise, but pretty much high-level.
Suppose all this is in an early stage, but we can't help feeling there's not enough going on. It's not so much about technically how to do it or morally why, but getting people out there to educate in the first place.

Do we have any goalposts to aim for yet?

Because it's all already in place. I suppose it's up to organisations like the RNIB and the DRC, the press and us to get the message across Smile

Do you believe a vehicle like GAWDS could carry our message, if endorsed by RNIB/DRC to take ideas and material out on the road?
We really do think a common voice is far stronger than individual companies doing their thing, if diplomacy can be maintained

Reply with quote I'm sure GAWDS could be a great vehicle for delivering this kind of message. However too often things like GAWDS end up very well known amongst designers/developers/etc. and virtually unheard of by business decision makers.

The only vehicle that can really get this message to the people that count is the press, but there is no reason that GAWDS can't help to get it there.

Cheers,
Nigel

We agree, which is why we've set up a 'BusinessCase' on GAWDS Wiki:
http://www.gawds.org/...

To make it an elitist developer group really devoids the whole membership issue, if members can't respectably get work or take ideas to the public as part of the Guild. Marketing is the key issue, we think.
But this needs to tie in with existing public sector work, like the RNIB and DRC...

Reply with quote Maketing is definitely key, couldn't agree more, may pop in with more comments on this later (on way out of door for meeting).

Reply with quote Has anyone from GAWDS approached RNIB re: partnership? There's been nothing in my in box yet (though perhaps someone has been in touch with one of my colleagues in the Web Accessibility Team).

Do let me know at julie.howell@rnib.org.uk as I would be happy to take a discussion forward.

Reply with quote Hi Julie,

We're building the business case for GAWDS, and would really appreciate your time in moving things forward.
Although in its early stages, GAWDS could greatly benefit from initiatives and endorsement from the public sector.
Where do you feel RNIB could assist in this process?
