Green Methods: Almost famous?
Home / Coffee Break / Green Methods: Almost famous?
My employer has a subscription to Web Designer magazine and this month they are running an article on accessibility:

Accessible Sites Learn by example. Here are four sites that get the balance between great-looking design and accessible content just right Green Methods [picture of website homepage] A site about biological pest control that's notable for a great layout and keyboard-based navigation system. Pay attention to the use of title label in links. |
Nice one Mike!.
Other featured sites are RNID, Imagine and Disney Store UK.
The writeup for the Disney store made me laugh though:

Graphics-heavy, this Disney site demostrates how an ecommerce portal should be built. Every image has Alt text and the all-important text can be resized |
And yes, before anyone asks it is the "new" Disney store site not Malarkey's effort. What a laugh, Although this is the same article that says:

"images with no content value, like spacers and table braces, can be marked up with an asterisk to show that the picture can be ignored" |
Except by a screen reader user who would be pulling their hair out.
Once again though well Done Mike!
The shoddy article is certainly no reflection on your site.

Indeed it would be a book but it would take too long to pick up all the mistakes in the article to be honest. Anyone who knows accessibility knows they are talking manure (pun intended)

I remember when all the big news channels were covering the "Hot Coffee" min-game for Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, it was shocking the misinformation they were all spreading around. I know the guy who unlocked it. When the bad reports started getting on national news, the modding community made a press release which we sent out to all major news outlets. We also sent e-mails out, most of the GTA community websites did actually. We told them exactly what "Hot Coffee" was (a mini-game present in GTA), who made it (R*, we just unlocked it), where the animations came from (already scripted into the game), we spelled the whole thing out to them.
They had so many facts from us I'm surprised they could even find the hysteria coming in from senators and a certain, special lawyer. But all the news agencies just made reports which were even more counterfactual than before. BBC reported one e-mail on their website, but none of its details got into the news broadcasts. "Are you mad? We can't put facts in there!"
Makes you realise how badly informed the modern media is. I guess we already knew that from the events of 2002/2003 but you'd hope things would improve with time.

Oh my, I had no idea. Very cool. Thanks for letting me know Andy. Do you know if there is something online that I can check out further?
Mike
