Rail travel!!!!!!!!
Hi,
I am a designer and am trying to develop a new seating system for wheelchair users on rail cars. Im trying to develop a new seating arrangement that will allow wheelchair users to sit aligned with the other rail users. This will stop wheelchair users being excluded by having to sit away from the other users and therefore promote a more sociable journey. The design will incorporate an anchoring device attached to either the seat in front of the wheelchair user zone or on the floor. Once this anchor has been locked then the rear of an ordinary rail seat will manoeuvre into place behind the wheelchair user. When correctly designed, this configuration will highly increase the safety of a wheelchair passenger during a head on collision.
So as to provide the best design solution to the problem, I would be very interested to learn about the problems that wheelchair users face when travelling on a train? This may be from gaining access the toilet to having a fold down table to rest a laptop on. Any information would be great.
